Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport ceremonially celebrated the 30th Anniversary of establishment and development (May 18th, 1988 - May 18th, 2018)

On May 18th, 2018, Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport (UT-HCMC) ceremonially celebrated the 30th Anniversary of establishment and development of UT-HCMC. Attending the ceremony, there were representatives of Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, Ministry of Transport, Department of Education and Training - Ho Chi Minh City, Consulate and Foreign Agencies, universities and colleges, companies, the former leading officials of Ministry of Transport and agencies and enterprises have made many contributions to the establishment of UT-HCMC, the former leading officials of Vietnam Maritime University and UT-HCMC as well as a large number of officials, lecturers, students’ attendance. On this special occasion, UT-HCMC also honorably received colorful flowers baskets and telegram of greetings from Government, Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Education and Training, Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, agencies, units and individuals.

In the solemn atmosphere of the ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Thu, Party Committee Secretary, President of UT-HCMC proudly praised the 30-year tradition of UT-HCMC with difficulties but glory. 30 years ago, on May 18th, 1988, Ministry of Transport and Post Office issued the Decision No.1252/TCCB-LĐ on the establishment of Ho Chi Minh City In-service Fostering and Training Center of Transport. This was an important milestone in the significant development of UT-HCMC.

Over the past 30 years, lecturers and students of UT-HCMC have constantly strived to overcome difficulties and challenges and become a center in training high-level human resources for the whole country and the world. Currently, UT-HCMC has more than 600 cadres, officials and lecturers at three campuses in Ho Chi Minh City and two campuses in Vung Tau and Dong Nai with over 15,000 students and trainees. The missions of Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport (UT-HCMC) are to train officials specializing in the fields of science and techiques and management officials with graduate and postgraduate levels, conduct scientific research, and transfer technology in the transport sector and relevant sectors in order to meet requirements of industrialization, modernization and international integration.

Congratulations to teachers and students of UT-HCMC, Mr. Bui Van Cuong, Chairman of Vietnam General Confederation of Labor said: "With a staff of more than 600 lecturers trained from doctorate degree to master degree, engineering degree and bachelor degree have made significant contributions to human resources for transport sector and for the whole country. UT-HCMC has remarkable achievements as today, owing to great efforts, determination, promoting internal strength of lecturers, especially tremendous support of Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Education and Training, Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, and VN Maritime University of the early days of establishment.”

Witnessed the great development of UT-HCMC, especially in recent years, Mr. Le Ngoc Van, Former Director of Department of Personnel and Organization of Ministry of Transport was also very excited. He wished UT-HCMC more and more developing and one of the multi-disciplinary universities in transport sector in training human resources, conducting research, and transferring science and technology in the direction of application in Transport sector in southern region.

Meritorious teacher, Mr. Pham Hong Son, Former Vice President in charge of UT-HCMC also wistfully recalled the early difficult days of establishment of UT-HCMC’s lecturers and students and was very happy to witness the growth of UT-HCMC over the past 30 years.

On the occasion of the 30th Anniversary of establishment and development of UT-HCMC, UT-HCMC was received the Letters of Congratulations by Russian University of Transport and Gdańsk University of Technology, Poland.

Standardization of the workplace and teaching environment of UT-HCMC has been invested and strongly considered. UT-HCMC has applied the ISO 9001 version 2008 - Quality management system since 2013 and this year upgraded to version 2015 in the whole university. UT-HCMC has also been accredited and has honorably received the Certificate of Educational Accreditation since 2017.

At the ceremony, UT-HCMC was honored to receive the Certificate of Quality Management System in accordance with national standard ISO 9001:2015. The Certificate of ISO 9001: 2015 shows that the commitment of UT-HCMC not only to achieve the certificate but also to maintain the quality assurance in accordance with international standards, applying practice according to the best standard.

In recognition of UT-HCMC’s efforts and contribution to the education and training process as well as the provision of high quality human resources for Ho Chi Minh City in recent years, Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee decided to award the traditional emulation flag for UT-HCMC’s collective and the Certificates of Merits for individuals of UT-HCMC. On this occasion, Vietnam General Confederation of Labor has decided to award the laudatory writing for Trade Union of UT-HCMC and Ministry of Transport has issued a decision on the reward for 08 collectives and individuals of UT-HCMC.

In the process of establishment and development, UT-HCMC always considers the building and development of officials and lecturers as the leading important factor. In the academic year of 2017-2018, UT-HCMC is very pleased and proud of 05 officials and lecturers who were conferred the title “Associate Professor” (Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Thi Anh, Director of Institute of Environment and Transport Studies; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Quoc Hien, Dean of Faculty of Transportation Engineering; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vu Hong Nghiep, Vice Dean of Faculty of Transportation Engineering; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vo Cong Phuong, Dean of Faculty of Electrical and Electronics Engineering; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Quang Phu, Head of Construction project management major of Faculty of Transport Economics

The 30th Anniversary of establishment and development of UT-HCMC was an opportunity for the University to look back upon the past and to orient the development of UT-HCMC in the upcoming years. It was also an occasion for the generations of officials, lecturers, students and trainees not only in order to take pride in the glorious tradition of the university, moreover, to strengthen and encourage to preserve and promote the achievements acquired.
