Overview about Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport

Ho Chi Minh University of Transport (UT-HCMC) directly under the Ministry of Transport is the largest multidisciplinary training university in transportation sector in the South of Vietnam. UT-HCMC is responsible for training human resources for the transportation sector, namely maritime, road, inland waterway and railway.

According to statistic in September, 2017, the University currently has 596 cadres, lecturers, and employees, including 15 Associate Professors, 64 Doctors, 329 Masters and other education qualifications.


On the scale of training: Over 15,000 students, trainees in all training levels system.

Forms of training: regular training, in-service training, inter-college transfer, transnational education short-term training courses for knowledge updating and professional development, and certification according to regulations.

The scientific research issue has received special attention and attracted great investment from the University. The University has been conducting a large number of programs, research projects, technology and science application, and collaborations with national and international organizations in implementing several scientific projects in term of the application of new technologies.

As a result, the scientific research activities have rapidly developed in term of the increase of the research topics. A large number of international scientific seminars or conferences have been organized at the University, bringing new opportunities for the cadres and lecturers to keep up with modern technologies as well as approaching scientific achievements in the world, in addition to helping reinforce their future research works. A great number of scientific topics and projects at the State and the Ministry levels have been approved and put into practice.

The scientific research activities among students have also gained lots of encouraging achievements. The “Creative ideas of UT-HCMC’s students” contest has gradually become an annually traditional competition and attracted numerous wonderful and excellent inventions and ideas. In addition, UT-HCMC’s students have also achieved a lot of awards in several competitions such as the ASEAN Skills competition, the Eureka Award of Ho Chi Minh City, the Vifotec at State level, and the National Olympic contests.


Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport has always actively promoted the international relations with international organizations. The University has considered the international collaborations as the passport to attracting international investment in education, technology transfer and reformation activities.

Apart from the successful projects, the University has strengthened close relationships with a lot of international institutions and training institutes, namely British Universities, Russian Academy of Sciences, the Netherlands Maritime University, the Australian Maritime College, Hua Zhong University of Science and Technology (China), Kanagawa Institute of Technology (Japan) and several other non-governmental organizations and so on.

Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport is one of the 20 selected universities in Viet Nam to be tested in university education quality by the Ministry of Education and Training. And the University has successfully passed this test.

Since March, 2012, UT-HCMC has designed and applied the ISO 9001:2008 in university education quality management system.

On March 27, 2017, VNU-HCM's Quality Assurance Council approved and announced the Resolution No. 02/NQ-HDKDCLGD on the appraisal of the training quality assessment, and UT-HCM has been acknowledged to meet the quality standards of educational institutions with 81.97% of satisfactory criterion.
