Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport (UT-HCMC) honorably held the opening ceremony of Asia Maritime & Fisheries Universities Forum (AMFUF)

In the morning of November 9, 2017, Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport honorably held the opening ceremony of the 16th Asia Maritime & Fisheries Universities Forum (AMFUF) 2017 with the attendance of Le Dinh Tho, Deputy Minister of Transport, representatives of Asian countries' Embassies and member universities.

The Asia Maritime & Fisheries Universities Forum (AMFUF) was officially initiated and founded in 2002 by Korea Maritime and Ocean University (KMOU) in Busan, Korea. The Forum has currently participation of 24 universities in Asia. In 2017, Ho Chi Minh University of Transport is honorably hosted the 16th Annual Asia Maritime & Fisheries Universities Forum.

At the beginning of the opening ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Thu, Party Committee Secretary, President of UT-HCMC said the AMFUF conference in 2017 is a great opportunity not only for the UT-HCMC to expand international collaborations, but also lecturers to be participated in academic activities, enhanced foreign languages competence and researched to reaching a setting goal that by 2030, Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport becomes one of the key multi-disciplinary universities in Vietnam; the top scientific research and training center in transport section; a prestigious and high advanced university in the region as well as all over the world.

Speaking the speech at the opening ceremony, on behalf of the Ministry of Transport, Deputy Minister Le Dinh Tho said that the training of human resources for the maritime industry in general is one of the most important tasks, strengthen cooperation between enterprises and maritime training institutions all over the world to train high-quality maritime human resources in the fields of maritime transport, shipbuilding, waterway construction and continental shelf, maritime environment, etc. is extremely essential.

Under the theme of "Sustainable and effective shipping and fishery industries”, researchers from nearly 20 universities in Asia have made useful presentations, ebullient discussions and creative ideas for the sustainable development of the maritime industry and fisheries.

In addition, at AMFUF 2017, General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, Sri Lanka will be awarded the AMFUF official membership certification, bringing the total number of AMFUF members to 25 universities and institutions. In particular, at AMFUF 2017 is attended by Governor of Gyeongsangbuk-do Province (GBD), Korea, on the occasion of the GBD in collaboration with Ho Chi Minh City organized the "World Cultural Festival 2017" to commemorate the 25th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic ties between Viet Nam - Republic of Korea and the Asia – Pacific Economy Cooperation (APEC) Forum 2017 to hold in Viet Nam. On November 10, 2017, Governor of the GBD and President of AMFUF will sign a Memorandum of Cooperation. Accordingly, from 2017, the GBD will actively participate and support the operation of the AMFUF.

With the host of the annual conference on Asia Maritime & Fisheries Universities Forum (AMFUF) 2017, Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport once again affirms Vietnam's desire to integrate and initiative in the field of global maritime training. Through this forum, the universities in the Association will further promote close and sustainable relationships, as the rapid development of each member university in particular and the Association, global maritime industry in general.
