Overview about Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport

Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport (UT-HCMC), a tertiary training institution directly under the Ministry of Transport, is the key multi-disciplinary university in transportation in Southern Vietnam. UT-HCMC is responsible for providing the manpower for the transport sectors namely maritime, road, inland waterway and railway.

Up to July 2017, at UT-HCMC, there have been 595 officials and lecturers including 15 Associate Professors, 64 Doctors, 345 Masters, 136 graduates and 35 associates.

I.  EDUCATION AND TRAINING ACTIVITIES

Training scale:  Over 15,000 students in all levels.


Types of training:  regular training, in-service training, inter-college transfer, transnational education, short-term training courses for knowledge updating and professional development, and certification according to regulations.

II. SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH ACTIVITIES AND TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER

The scientific research issue has received special attention and attracted great investment from UT-HCMC. UT-HCMC has been conducting a large number of programs, research projects, technology and science application, and collaborations with national and international organizations in carrying out several scientific projects in term of the application of new technologies.

As a result, the scientific research activities have rapidly developed in term of the increase of the research topics. A large number of international scientific seminars or conferences have been organized at UT-HCMC, bringing new opportunities for the staff and lecturers to keep up with modern technologies as well as approaching scientific achievements in the world, in addition to helping underpin their future research works. A great number of scientific projects at the State and the Ministry levels have been approved and put into practice.

The scientific research activities among students have also gained lots of encouraging achievements. The “Creative ideas of UT-HCMC’s students” contest has gradually become an annually traditional competition and attracted numerous wonderful and excellent inventions and ideas. In addition, UT-HCMC students have also achieved a lot of awards in several competitions such as the ASEAN Skills competition, the Eureka Award of Ho Chi Minh City, the Vifotec at state level, and the National Olympic contests.

III. INTERNATIONAL COLLABORATIONS:

UT-HCMC has always actively promoted the international relations with international organizations. UT-HCMC has considered the international collaborations as the passport to attracting international investment in education, technology transfer and reformation activities.

Apart from the successful projects, UT-HCMC has established close relationships with a lot of international institutions and training institutes namely British universities, Russian Academy of Sciences, the Netherlands Maritime University, the Australian Maritime College, Hua Zhong University of Science and Technology (China), Kanagawa Institute of Technology (Japan) and several other non-governmental organizations and so on.

UT-HCMC is currently the official member of the following organizations:

- Association of Maritime Education and Training institutions in Asia-Pacific (AMETAP), currently Global Maritime Education and Training Association (GLOBALMET)

- International Association of Maritime Universities (IAMU)

- International Association of Universities (IAU)

- Asia Maritime and Fisheries Universities Forum (AMFUF)

- Asian University Presidents Forum (AUPF) 

IV. EDUCATION QUALITY ASSURANCE AND TESTING ACTIVITIES

UT-HCMC is one of the 20 selected universities in Viet Nam to be tested in university education quality by the Ministry of Education and Training. And UT-HCMC has successfully passed this test.

From the month of March 2012, UT-HCMC has designed and applied the ISO 9001:2008 in university education quality management system.

On March 27, 2017, VNU-HCM's Quality Assurance Council approved and announced the Resolution No. 02/NQ-HDKDCLGD on the appraisal of the training quality assessment, and UT-HCMC has been acknowledged to meet the quality standards of educational institutions with 81.97% of satisfactory criterion
