Faculty of Navigation

1/ Introduction

Together with the University development, the Faculty of Navigation has continously developed both in quality and quantity.

With the high quality permanent teaching staff, the faculty has the responsibilities in:

- Providing marine officers serving on board ships (including cargo ships, container ships, cruise ships, tankers...), constructions, navigation, services, defense...

- Training seafarers with competitive qualifications to work nationally and internationally on board ships.

- Providing the seafarers, updating the new knowledge to meet the demand from The Standards of Training, Certification & Watchkeeping (STCW 95).

- Providing engineers with profound knowledge about maritime to work in maritime fields such as management, life-saving service, oil rigs, offshore fishing, tourism, navy....

The faculty has trained more than 2.000 students. Many of them have become leaders in the marine sector and become captains, maritime officers and successful businessmen.

The number of student enrolment every year including college, university, post-graduate is 200 students and the total number of students is 1200 students.

The facilities used for education and training have been gradually upgraded by the help of the government, organizations and individuals. At the moment, there are 4 experimental labs, the training vessel of the university and the simulation rooms from UT-STC. Many lecturers from the faculty have usually gone abroad for training, improving their qualifications. The faculty has also collaborated with many national and international centers in training, researching.

The students in the faculty have been trained in accordance with the advanced techniques in the world (follwing the IMO standards).

3/ Training majors, levels

Ship Navigation  [Major code D840106-101]: Graduates shall be able to operate and work on all kind of vessels including cargo vessels, tankers, container ships and petrol companies. Moreover, graduates can seeking a career as ship’s navigation officers, ship’s operators, sea pilots, ship’s agents, custom officers, sea police officers and careers related to marine industry, such as employment in areas of marine insurance, port management, surveying, oil drilling, forwarding, etc.

Types of trainin: undergraduate, junior college, inter-college

Post graduate:

Sepicalized major: Ship navigation

We provide Masters specializing in Ship navigation to meet demands from the society in the follwing sectors: ship navigation for sea transport companies, maritime safety assurance, maritime law, maritime insurance, researching and applying advanced techonology in the ship navigation major.

Training the self-study skills for the students to enhance their creative ability and profound research for future study.

Assuring the ability to international integration for students.

Specialized major: Maritime Administration

We provide Masters specializing in Maritime Administration  to meet demands from the society in the follwing sectors: ship navigation for sea transport companies, maritime safety assurance, oil rigs administration, maritime law, maritime insurance, researching and applying advanced techonology in the ship navigation major.

4/ Scientific research and technology transfer activities:

The Deparment of Navigation has possessed some institutional and ministerial scientific research projects but in a limited amount. Recently, the scientific research activities have been put into attention and many scientific journals, scientific seminars, curriculum designing have been carried out. The training programs have been yearly upgraded under the regulations of MOET and IMO.
